Siemens
GSM S35i crypto
phone: FAQ session
Is
this phone modified to include the encryption/decryption
hw/sw by Siemens? The phone is a standard Siemens phone,
but Siemens does not participate at all in the modifications.
There are hardware and software modification that take place
inside the phone.
Do we need any sort of special certifications or approvals
to be able to sell the phone in our country? The subject
is very country-specific, it depends on each country.
We know for example that in certain countries, here in Europe,
we can only sell it to Government and Military Forces. The crypto
phone is very powerful and if it were to be used by terrorists,
for example, there would be no way to intercept and listen to
conversations. Our suggestion is to contact your local authorities
and to get directions from them on how to behave with sales
of this phone. As far as importing this phone, I would suggest
again to contact your local authorities, as theoretically there
should not be any limitations, but of course Goverments and
Police Forces might want to know first. We anyway suggest that
if you sell it, a full document about the purchasers must be
kept at all times available for the local authorities to review.
Keep the customers' records in good order and make them always
available to local authorities.
We cannot find any specific document on the technical feature
of the phone, where can we look at? In simple words, it
is a GSM phone that has been modified to become encrypted. The
tech details that can be made public are listed on this web
site; we cannot, by request of the Law Enforcement Agencies
publish any document that discuss in details the technical features
of the encryption protocol.
Does it have any specific military certification? Yes,
it is NATO certified. A certificate will be supplied with the
phone.
What is the retail price of the phone? The retail price
of the phone is 6,000.00 euro each. So in order to make a protected
conversation, you must have two phones.
Can I use a GSM phone to talk in a protected mode with my
office? Yes, you can buy the encryption module for an ISDN
line.
Are there any other encrypted GSM phones on the market?
That we are aware, this is the only NATO certified phone specificaly
used by Goverments, Police and NATO military forces.

product is supported by us directly.
